WATERLOO - Tom D. McElderry, 65, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of pancreatic cancer.
He was born Nov. 5, 1948, in Ottumwa, son of Mervin and Helen Thompson McElderry. He married Carol A. DeWolfe on May 7, 1983.
Tom graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1967 and Indian Hills Community College in 1969. He was employed with John Deere for 35 years, retiring Nov. 5, 2008. He was in the National Guard from 1966 to 1975.
Survived by his wife; two sons, Jeramie (Stacy) of Tonganoxie, Kan., and Brandon (Celeste) of Great Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Kristin (Jon Swarts) McElderry of Waterloo and Shauna (Nate Miller) McElderry of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Samantha and Dakota McElderry; three grandsons, Ethan Harper and Greyson and Colton McElderry; two stepgrandsons, Josh and Jake Griffin; a stepgranddaughter, Haley Griffin; his mother, Helen of Bloomfield; two brothers, James (Kathleen) of Burlington and Tim of Bloomfield; a sister, JoAnne Swaim of Bloomfield; numerous nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Lila DeWolfe of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Diane (Larry) Webb of Cedar Falls and Arlene (Bob) Bubbico of Greenwich, Conn.; and two brothers-in-law, Alan (Karen) DeWolfe of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and Dennis DeWolfe of Omaha, Neb.
Preceded in death by his father, Mervin McElderry; and father-in-law, Harold DeWolfe.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff -Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, American Cancer Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.
