CEDAR FALLS - Russell James McLaughlin, 89, of Sioux Center, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sept. 24, 2005, at Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Wagner, S.D., son of Eugene and Beatrice Gavin McLaughlin. He married Arletta Schollian on Feb. 11, 1939, at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple were longtime residents of Sioux City and Cedar Falls until retiring to Trapon Springs, Fla., in 1979. They recently moved back to the Sioux Center area in 2005.

Mr. McLaughlin was a sales manager for Food Producers Inc. He sang in the Bishops Choir in Sioux City, Barber Shop Chorus, Moose Chorus and in the choir at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Tarpon Springs.

He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and was an avid golfer and enjoyed singing, dancing, playing cards and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Ronald and Richard (Sue), both of Cedar Falls, and Russell Jr. (Debbie) of West Chester, Ohio; three daughters, Rita (Ron) Klaus of Fruitland Park, Fla., Ruthanne (Chuck) Ranschau of Sioux Center and Regina (Dave) Krueger of Waterloo; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Anne Bowman of Hills and Helen (Hank) Rahe of Naperville, Ill.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert McLaughlin; and a sister, Dorothy Hansen.

Services were Sept. 28 at St. Marys Catholic Church, with burial in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, both in Rock Valley.
