John O. Buss, 68, of Denver, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, following an apparent heart attack at his home.

He was born Jan. 7, 1940, in Waterloo, son of John W. and Malinda E. Eickelberg Buss. On Sept. 15, 1963, he married Lois Schneider in Oran.

He graduated from Denver High School in 1958 and then attended Gates Business College, Waterloo, for a year where he studied business administration.

A U.S. Army and Army National Guard of Iowa veteran, Mr. Buss worked for the Sun Oil Company, Waterloo, for many years, later becoming part-owner in the company which changed its name to Waterloo Oil Company. In the early 1980s, he and his wife owned and operated the Weather Vane Restaurant in Denver for more than 10 years. He retired from Waterloo Oil Company in 1999.

He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Wanda (Lloyd) Wagner and Candy (Tony) Wagner, both of Denver; a son, Michael (Sharon) of Denver; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred (Rodney) Hennings of Denver.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Denver. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Acker-Matthias American Legion Post #653. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
