CEDAR FALLS - Nettie M. King, 78, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a short illness.

She was born July 22, 1929, in Fayette County, near Lamont, daughter of Herman Joseph and Ruth Ellen Lawless Smith. On Aug. 31, 1946, she and married Richard Clinton King at First Baptist Church, Independence. He preceded her in death in 2002.

She attended school in Oelwein. Mrs. King was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Independence and Waterloo.

Survived by four daughters, Karen (Ron) Carrington of Des Moines, Vickie (Mark) Graham and Diana (Raymond) Moses, both of Waterloo and Cheryl Smith of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond E. Smith of Waterloo; and two sisters, Ellen Wilson of Cedar Rapids and Kathryn Scovel of Oelwein.

Preceded in death by her parents; two daughters; a son; a grandson; three brothers; and a sister.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Independence, with burial in Hazleton Cemetery, Hazleton. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Independence.

Nettie enjoyed playing cards, tea house luncheons and doing crafts to produce gifts for her friends and family. But most of all, she recently remarked how "precious" her grandchildren were to her.
