CEDAR FALLS - Maynard James Ellison, 89, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died at home Monday, June 30, 2014, of natural causes.

He was born May 4, 1925, in Steamboat Rock, son of John and Mable Walters Ellison. He married Beverly Edgerton on Aug. 23, 1946, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

A 1943 graduate of Waterloo East High School, Maynard served in the U.S. Navy with the SeaBees as a Seaman First Class during World War II. He worked for Waterloo Fire Department Waterloo Fire Rescue from 1948 to 1980, retiring as a lieutenant. He also owned Ellison Tax Service with his wife from 1968 to 1995. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Diane (Randy) Zey of Cedar Falls; a son, John (Roxana) of Luther; five grandchildren, Letisha (Christopher) Murray, Sunni (Drew) Richmond, Amy (Adam) Provost, Timothy (Lacey) Ellison and Mikaela Ellison; seven great-grandchildren, Gabe, Elli, Noah, Lilly, Amelia, Anna Belle and Arianna; a sister, Eleanor Miller of Cedar Falls; and a brother, Arnold (Elsie) Smith of Missouri.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Sonny; and a grandson, Kyle Zey.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, with military honors by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Detail.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
