CEDAR FALLS - Mary K. Averill, 58, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, of breast cancer.

She was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Cedar Falls, daughter of James and Evelyn Tesmer Knowles. She married Paul Averill on Oct. 11, 1975, in Cedar Falls.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1974 and attended Meredith Manor School of Horsemanship in West Virginia, graduating in 1975. She gave riding lessons and trained horses before attending Hawkeye Tech for Ag Business Management. She worked for Hudson Co-op and then attended Hamilton Business College and the University of Northern Iowa for computer programming. She was then office manager for a local commodities broker until they closed. She was past president of Friends of KUNI.

Survived by her husband; a son, Jim (Maggie) of New Hartford; two grandchildren, Mike and Molly; a sister, Faye (Douglas Muirhead) Knowles of Minneapolis; a brother, Jack Knowles of Excelsior, Wis.; and her dog, Bob Barker.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services: noon Saturday at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
