Arnold “Tony” Dean Bland, 87, of Marquette, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at his home in Marquette.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1926, to Freborn and Rosa E. (Billington) Bland in Stahl, Mo. Tony attended Lowell Elementary and Waterloo West High School. He entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II and the Korean War.

Tony was united in marriage with Shirley Rose in 1951 in Dubuque. One child was born to this union, Jody. Tony owned and operated The Park Avenue Tap in Waterloo and he also sold Ford automobiles for Wheeler Motors and Jim Corde’s Ford. He worked in Guttenberg as a drywall installer and finisher at Trademark Homes. In his younger years, Tony enjoyed boxing. He had a great love for animals, especially horses. Tony also loved to spent time woodworking and oil painting. Tony and Shirley have spent many happy years since 1968 at Sleepy Hollow Camp Ground.

Tony is survived by his wife, Shirley of Marquette; a daughter, Jody Bland of Waterloo; and a sister, Arlene Stabenow of Waterloo.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Thomas Bland.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, and again on Friday, July 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., Waterloo, IA 50703.

Funeral Services will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave., Waterloo, IA 50703.

Entombment will be at the Garden of Memories Mausoleum, Waterloo.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tony’s honor, to the Mar-Mac Fire and Rescue or the Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, is helping the family with the arrangements.
