CEDAR FALLS - Mattie Iona Dillavou, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Fayette County, daughter of Kenneth and Stella Luce Holtzman. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1939. She came to Waterloo after graduation and worked at Holtzmans Grocery, owned by her brother Harold. There she met her husband, Forest Dillavou, who roomed near the store. They dated about six months then married. Mattie and Forest had seven children and they lived and raised their family in Evansdale. Forest preceded her in death in 1970.

She worked at Chamberlains as part of the war effort. She enjoyed crafts, helped with Boy Scouts and was a 4-H leader for many years. Mattie was an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church of Evansdale for many years and was a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, Waterloo. The past two years she lived at the Assisted Living in the Western Home in Cedar Falls, where she enjoyed church services, friendships and loving care.

Survived by two sons, Forest (Janet) of Waterloo and Marv (Jeneane) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Julia (Richard) Batchelder of Evansdale and Brenda Dillavou of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Minnie Roquet of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, LaVern Dillavou in 1973; two daughters, Velma and Jeanette, both in infancy; a grandson; eight brothers; and a sister.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with family burial Monday in Salem South Cemetery, Salem. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
