Early Settler in Black Hawk Dies at Age 75

Robert J. Gillin, 75, pioneer farmer of Black Hawk County and for the past two years a Waterloo resident, died at 11:45 p.m. yesterday at his home 935 Third Street West. Mr. Gillin had been in poor health for a number of years. His leg was broken in a fall in November, 1924, and he had been bedfast since that time.

Mr. Gillin was born July 12, 1849, in Pennsylvania and came to Black Hawk County with his mother when a youth. For many years he engaged in farming near Hudson, Ia. Several years ago he moved to Kimball, S. D. and later he was associated in the mercantile business at Doon, Ia., with his brothers, A. S. and W. E. Gillin. Later he resided at Sioux City, Ia., coming here two years ago.

He was married to Miss Minnie Weller, Feb. 12, 1880, in Orange Township, Ia., and she survives.

Mr. Gillin was a member of the First Brethren Church of Waterloo.

Surviving besides the wife are two brothers, Dr. C. W. Gillin and A. S. Gillin, both of Sioux City, and a sister, Mrs. F. H. McCartney, 619 Eighth Street West, Waterloo.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Edwin Boardman, pastor of First Brethren Church, officiating. The place had not been determined. Burial will be in Elmwood.

Funeral services for Robert J. Gillin, who died Wednesday at his home, 935 Third Avenue West, will be in First Brethren Church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Edwin Boardman officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood.
