LA PORTE CITY - Madeline Johannsen, 94, of La Porte City, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at La Porte City Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Schley, daughter of C.A. and Lena Degro Fosse. She married Ray Johannsen in 1938 in Rolla, Mo.; he died in 1986.

Mrs. Johannsen graduated from La Porte City High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Wartburg College. She taught school for 30 years, retiring in 1973. She was a life member of Eastern Star.

Survived by a granddaughter, Heidi (Brett) Cook of Midland, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Rachael, Joshua and John Cook; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johannsen.

Preceded in death by a son, Robert; and two brothers, Ogden and Lewis Fosse.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at American Lutheran Church, La Porte City. Burial, along with her sons cremains, will be in West View Cemetery, also in La Porte City. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
