WATERLOO - Mary Ann Geiger, 70, passed away at her daughter’s home on Saturday, May 24, 2014, in Denver, Colorado.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Charles and Emma Riha. Mary Ann graduated from Columbus High School and received a registered nursing degree from Mount Mercy College. She married Gene Geiger in Waterloo, and they had five children. Mary Ann was a devoted nurse for 40 years at Schoitz Memorial Hospital/Covenant Medical Center, 18 of which she worked simultaneously at Allen Memorial Hospital.

Mary Ann loved her family, her faith and nursing. She was deeply compassionate, had a strong work ethic and served as a wealth of knowledge to those around her. Mary Ann went above and beyond in all that she did. She consistently put others first, especially her family, and felt most fulfilled when she could be of service. Her unconditional love and unwavering support will be forever treasured and appreciated.

Survived by her five children: Mark Geiger, Dawn Geiger, Bret Geiger, Ilene Geiger, Debbie (Rocky) Rochau; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her sister; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Elizabeth (Vern) Matthias and Sr. Maria, Order of Discalced Carmelites and the Carmel of Maria Regina.

Celebration of Life: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 320 Mulberry St., Waterloo, Iowa 50703. Public visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 300 West Ridgeway, Waterloo, Iowa 50701, where there will be a 2 p.m. Legion of Mary Rosary and 4 p.m. Vigil Service including an open sharing of Mary Ann’s life. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

A private burial will be held in Garrison, Iowa, at a later date.
