WATERLOO -- Althea I. Russell Kittsmiller, 97, of Waterloo, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center, La Porte City.

She was born March 19, 1917, in Lake Mills, daughter of Arthur and Regina Kobbervig Miller. She married Maurice Russell on Nov. 1, 1937, in Elkader; he died May 11, 1960. She married Benjamin Kittsmiller on June 1, 1963, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; he died Jan. 29, 1999.

Althea graduated from Scarville High School. She was employed as a seamstress in Mason City, and then made custom draperies in Waterloo for 27 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Cedar Valley Community Church.

Survived by a daughter, Karen (Jerry) LaCrosse of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Michele (Tim) Way and Janean (Jeff) Craig, both of Hudson, and Scott (Kim) LaCrosse of Loudon, N.H.; and six great-grandchildren, Morgan and Tyler Way, Michael and Danielle LaCrosse and Kortney and Logan Craig.

Preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Brush Point Cemetery, Hanlontown.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Althea’s faith in God and love of her family were always first in her life.
