Waterloo - Merle E. Elliott, 77, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo of heart failure.

He was born January 4, 1927 in La Porte City, son of Thomas and Anna Kaiser Elliott. He married Grace Stansbery on June 6, 1945, in Waterloo.

Mr Elliott was retired from farming and construction. He served in the U S Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael (Sheila), Steven (Mary) and Kim (Annette) all of Waterloo; two daughters, Markita (Leonard) Peterson of Waterloo and Renee Weston of Genoa, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; four step- grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren; a brother Thomas (Virginia) of La Porte City; and three sisters, Charlotte Elliott, Elizabeth Niemeyer and Marjorie Rausch, all of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by a grandson, four brothers, Elvin, George, Harold and Donald; and a sister, Mabel Zobel.

Services: 2 PM Monday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM today at Kearns-Huisman_Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
