WATERLOO - Larry "Alex" Alexander, 63, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center from the effects of smoking.

He was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Waterloo, son of Dale and Leona Crays Alexander.

Mr. Alexander attended Waterloo Schools and graduated from West Waterloo in 1959. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves after high school and attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa), Cedar Falls, for a year and a half. He worked as an insurance agent for Nelson Insurance for 22 years and as a customer service representative for AFFINA LLC for the last 10 years.

Larry was an avid fisherman and did leather carving when the weather would not let him fish.

Survived by a brother, Steven (Colleen) Alexander of La Porte City.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Committal services: 2 p.m. Thursday in the mausoleum at Garden of Memories Cemetery, with burial there. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
