WATERLOO - Gladys Evelyn Emerich, 95, of Rosewood Estate, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

She was born April 11, 1909, in Deerfield, daughter of Mark and Katherine Goss Califf. She married Howard E. Emerich June 15, 1940, in Cresco; he died Sept. 27, 2000.

Mrs. Emerich was employed in accounting with John Deere & Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Of the many activities Howard and Gladys enjoyed doing together, one of their favorites was dancing to the big bands.

Survived by a nephew, John "Jack" Black of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Norlan "Knut" Tillotson of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta (Louis) Jirak and Lois Tillotson; and a brother, Russell Califf.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Edwards Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. CDA rosary, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.O
