WATERLOO - Paul H. Grant, 79, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at ManorCare of natural causes.

He was born Jan. 28, 1926, in Greene, son of Raymond and Mary Coen Grant. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, George and Lucinda Coen, after his mothers death at the age of 29. He married Evelyn Saul Jan. 29, 1947, in Waterloo. She died Nov. 16, 2004.

Mr. Grant was employed with Rath Packing Co. as a meat cutter for 41 years, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, stationed on the U.S.S. Massachusetts in the South Pacific during World War II.

Survivors include three brothers, John (Dorothy) and E. LeRoy, both of Charles City, and Bill of Oelwein; two sisters, Freida Willhite of Waterloo and Mary Louise Long of Clarksville; close friends, Kent and Ann Orchard and their daughter, Heidi, all of Waterloo, and their son, Joshua (Sarah) Orchard of Pine Island, Minn.; and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a sister, Susie Meader.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and for an hour prior to services Friday.
