WATERLOO - Julius Praglin, 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

Julius was born June 12, 1927, in Boston, Mass., son of Aaron and Helen (Rosenberg) Praglin. He married Rosabelle Wolfson on June 12, 1949, in Worcester, Mass.

Julius served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is an alumnus of Boston Latin School, Clark University where he received his bachelor's degree, and the University of Illinois where he received his master's and his Ph.D. He was the author and inventor of numerous patents, was an electrophysiologist and instructor in physiology and ophthalmology at Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland and later served as director of Research and Development at Pfizer Diagnostics Division in Groton, Conn.

Survived by his wife of Waterloo; three daughters, Judith (Rick) Robbins, of North Haven, Conn., Laura (Kenneth Atkinson) Praglin of Cedar Falls, Martha (Michael) Smith of Durham, Conn.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Northern Iowa Social Work Department for student scholarships or the donor’s choice. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
