WASHBURN - Michael E. "Mike" Heerkes, of Porter, Texas, formerly of Washburn, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Houston of complications of pneumonia.

He was born Dec. 20, 1952, son of Ray E. and Alyce Heerkes. He married Judy Hartman on Aug. 11, 1978; they later divorced. He married Julie Brase on Jan. 4, 1997. She preceded him in death in 2013.

He graduated from Don Bosco High School in 1971 and went into the U.S. Marines, eventually moving to Arizona and then Texas with his wife and family.

Survived by his stepmother, Louise Heerkes; two sisters, Pat (Ken) Weber of Jesup and Rae Ann (Ron) Pedersen of Cedar Falls; and three stepchildren, Tony Brase of The Woodlands, Texas, James Brase of Huntsville, Texas, and Jessie (John) Gross of Lemore, Calif.

Preceded in death by his wife; and his parents.

Celebration of Life will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Legacy Sport III in Jesup.
