WATERLOO -- G.A. “Bud” Lauer, 91, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital of natural causes.
He was born May 7, 1922, in Reinbeck, son of Ernest F. and Rose E. A. Lutz Lauer. He married Louise E. Kern on June 23, 1946 in Waterloo.
Mr. Lauer was the owner/operator of Lauer Trucking for 64 years, retiring in 2010. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. Bud was a member of the 101st Airborne, was part of the Normandy invasion on D-Day, and participated at the Battle of the Bulge/Bastogne. He was also a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survived by his wife; two sons, Darrell (Cynthia) of Waterloo and Marty (LaJune) of Vail; a daughter, Cheryl Lauer of Waterloo; a sister, Norma Sprague of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Sarah, Wes, and Jordan Lauer; and three step-grandchildren, Andrew Lenius, and Jake and Tiffany Ruch.
Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry; three brothers, Ernest, Ted, and Roy; and a sister, Ruth Wagner.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kearns Funeral Chapel on Kimball.
Memorials may be directed to the family or Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund.
