WATERLOO - Anna Lisa Schmidt, 86, of Friendship Village, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Friendship Village Retirement Center.

She was born July 12, 1927, in Thisted, Denmark, daughter of Anders C. and Marie Andersen Nielsen. She married Thorsten Schmidt on July 10, 1954, in Cedar Falls. He died on March 12, 2003.

Lisa received a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1952. She taught at Humbert, Lincoln, Cedar Heights and North Cedar elementary schools in Cedar Falls for 13 years until 1975. Lisa then offered childcare in her home for the next 20 years. Lisa was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church

Survived by a daughter, Hanna (Gary) Nesbit of Daleville, Va.; a son, Philip (Jennifer) of Rochelle Park, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Betsy Nesbit, Tasha (Jason) Kell, Rebekah Nesbit, Keyrsten Schmidt, Maycie Schmidt, Kirk Schmidt, Arik Schmidt and Tia Schmidt; and a great-granddaughter, Mila Kell.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Birgit; and a sister, Rhoda Nielsen.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Waterloo. Burial will precede the service in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo Christian School.

"Those who knew Lisa will miss her, but are rejoicing that she is in the presence of the Lord Jesus, whom she loved and served and enjoyed."
