CEDAR FALLS - Donald H. Lesch, 91, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls.

He was born May 15, 1922, in Rockford, son of Herman and Julia Popham Lesch. He married Evelyn E. Tabbert on June 3, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township, near Osage. She preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 2004.

He graduated from Osage High School. Don was employed by John Deere & Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1986. Most of his career was spent at the Product Engineering Center (PEC) as an engine technician. He volunteered at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and delivered Meals on Wheels after his retirement. He was actively involved with his church and the Boy Scouts.

Survived by five sons, twins Conrad (Tina) of Joliet, Ill., and Edward (Carlyn) of Davenport, David (Jane) of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Robert (Kim) of Concord, Calif., and Charles (Jean) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Ruth (Dan) Harken of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Leroy, Roger and Byron and their wives.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Janesville, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Donald sang in the barbershop quartet “The Rusty Hinges,” he enjoyed music, reading and playing Scrabble. Don could fix or build just about anything. His patience and kindness will be remembered by many.
