CEDAR RAPIDS - Barbara Kay Philiph Brandt, 70, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital of respiratory failure. Services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006, at St. Mark United Methodist Church by the Rev. Diana Hoover. Burial: Private family burial at the Waterloo Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call after 9 a.m. at the church the day of the service. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Survivors include a son, Eric Brandt of Springville; a daughter, Melissa Mickelson of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Zachary Mickelson and Ben and Krystal Detweiler; one brother, James (Midge) Philiph of Marion; and a nephew, Brian Philiph of Hiawatha.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Brandt; her parents; and a sister, Mollie Huggins.

Barbara was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Hartley to Albert and Velma Barnes Philiph. She was married to Douglas Brandt on March 8, 1958, in Waterloo. Barbara worked for Brandt's Food Fare in Traer, Great River Provisioner in McGregor and Wal-Mart, retiring in 1994. Barbara was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's Club, Naomi-Esther Circle and St. Mark's Singles Club. She was also a funeral luncheon coordinator and a volunteer in the gift shop at St. Luke's Hospital.

Barbara enjoyed crafts and participating in bus trips. She loved to travel and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
