LA PORTE CITY - Lela M. Gray, 87, of Cedar Falls, formerly of La Porte City, died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

She was born Aug. 31, 1918, in rural Martinsburg, daughter of William H. and Lela H. Schlosser Hayes. She married Delbert "Jim" Gray on July 23, 1939, in Dubuque. He preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1999.

She was employed with Gildner's, a men's clothing store in Waterloo, as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Survived by a daughter, Sharon (Larry) Miller of Waterloo; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Regur of Clovis, Calif.

Preceded in death by three brothers, George, Fred and Ross Hayes; and a sister, Lois Judson.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery, rural Martinsburg. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, where there will be a 7 p.m. Eastern Star service, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
