LA PORTE CITY - Elvera M. Heckroth, 84, of La Porte City, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Dysart, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a sudden illness.

She was born April 21, 1921, in Benton County, near Keystone, daughter of Henry and Marie Pohlmann Selk. She married Ralph Heckroth on Jan. 15, 1948, in Nashua. He died Dec. 30, 1987.

Mrs. Heckroth and her husband farmed in the Dysart area for many years following their move from Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include a stepson, Ronald Heckroth of Janesville; a sister, Mardean Hix of Dysart; a sister-in-law, Annie Selk of Dysart; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Earl and Ralph Selk.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church, La Porte City, with burial in Dysart Cemetery, Dysart. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Huisman Funeral Home, La Porte City, and for an hour before Saturday at the church.
