Donald Wayne Mager, 87, of Tripoli, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein.

He was born June 8, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Walter and Mabel Tippie Mager. He married Beverly Nadine Price on Jan. 21, 1945, in Waterloo. She died Jan. 2, 2008.

He received his education in the Waterloo Public Schools and attended East High School. He served with the U.S. Army and was stationed on Okinawa during World War II. Don worked for more than 30 years at John Deere & Co. in Waterloo and also farmed near Tripoli.

Survived by his four children, Floy Bodden of Anchorage, Alaska, Allyson (Brian) Gomer of Oelwein, Wayne (Lora) Mager of Elkader and Lynne Mager of Santa Fe, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Russell of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Virginia Johnson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, with burial in Fremont Cemetery, rural Tripoli, with military rites by Brandenburg-Krueger Post 4013, V.F.W. of Tripoli. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rettig Funeral Home, Tripoli, and for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
