WOUND NEAR TEMPLE CAUSED WILL DICKEY'S DEATH

As briefly recorded in the Daily Courier yesterday, W. A. Dickey, who was injured by a falling elevator at the Rath Packing Co.'s building, died at 3 o'clock without recovering consciousness. As stated yesterday, he was carried as soon as possible after the accident to the home of his father-in-law on Dane Street, and there the physicians continued heroic efforts to restore consciousness, but without avail. He died at 3 o'clock.

Tho wound which caused his death and the only wound outside of a few minor bruises, was located just back of the eye and a little below the anterior portion of the temple bone. In falling he must have struck his head with such force on some small iron, probably one of the projecting bolts on the elevator, as to penetrate the skull, crushing the bone. The elevator was uncovered and a number of irons and bolt heads about the gearing part project above the woodwork. The theory is that Mr. Dickey must have fallen backwards after the elevator started in its wild drop to the basement, and struck one of those projections.

Mr. Dickey was well known in Waterloo and his tragic death is universally mourned. He is a married man, and would have been 40 years old next April.

He leaves a wife and four children, three daughters and one son.

His family were living in Dunkerton, but arrived in Waterloo within two hours after the accident occurred and were with him when death came. He was a member of L. O. Howland lodge, A. O. U. W., and his fellow members will have charge of the funeral services.

The funeral will be held at the house at 10:30 a.m. at Grace M. B. Church at 11 o'clock, Rev. Evans officiating.

Besides being a member of Howland lodge, in which he had $2,000 insurance, Mr. Dickey was also a member of the National Union, carrying a policy for $3000. The burial will be at Fairview.
