Services for Melvin E. Smith, 65, of 216 Rhey St., are pending at Schultz Funeral Home in Monona. He died it his home at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, it was ruled by Dr. Paul O'Keefe, county medical examiner.

He was born in Monona Sept. 2, 1909, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Smith. He was last employed as an elevator operator at Rath Picking Co.

Surviving are two brothers, Loren of Cresco, and Carl of Monona; and a sister, Mrs. Lester Kaiser of West Branch.

The body was taken to Monona from Parrott and Wood Funeral Home.
