WATERLOO - James Reece Wilson, 81, of Waterloo, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

?He was born June 30, 1924, in Marshalltown, son of Gerald and Nellie Gail Reece Wilson. He married Mig Levi on Sept. 30, 1945, in Carrollton, Ill. She died Jan 31, 1995.

Mr. Wilson graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II as an engineer/top turret gunner on a B-17. He was shot down over Holland and sheltered by the Dutch underground until liberated by advancing allied forces.

He worked at John Deere from 1947 until 1960; New York Life Insurance Co.; was Assistant Black Hawk County Treasurer under Dewey Butterfield; was City Clerk in the Lloyd Turner administration; worked for Municipal Code Corp.; the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce with convention promotions; was a field representative for U.S. Sen. Roger Jepsen; was convention manager for the Ramada Inn; worked as manager of the Quality Inn; and again with the Waterloo Chamber where he retired after helping with business relocation during the downtown highway construction project.

He was an active volunteer with Allen Memorial Hospital, Westminster Presbyterian Church; Boy Scouts, including Scoutmaster of Troop 1 for 10 years; past Exalted Ruler of Waterloo Elks Lodge 290; past Commander of American Legion Post 138; Waterloo Ambassadors, Junior Achievement, Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, and chief of the Waterloo Police Auxiliary in the late 1960s.

Survivors include two sons, J.R. Bob (Kathy) of Walla Walla, Wash., and Dan L. (Annette) of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Angie (Jeff) Hoskins of Springfield, Mo., Brad Wilson of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jessica Wilson of Anaheim, Calif., Amy (Lee) Millspaugh of Central, S.C., Joshua Wilson of Waterloo and Jeremy Wilson of Iowa City; four great-grandchildren, Maddison and MacKinzie Hoskins, Peyton and Noah Millspaugh; special friend, Heloise Wire of Waterloo; a brother, Robert (fiancee Joanne) Wilson of La Porte City; and a sister, Maryhelen (special friend Gordon) Miller of Showlow, Ariz.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Allen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
