WATERLOO - Donald J. McSweeney, 93, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 13, 1912, in Fremont Township, Fayette County, near Westgate, son of Michael John and Margaret Mildred Deluhrey McSweeney. He married Evelyn A. Schmidt on Jan. 19, 1948, in Cedar Falls. She died April 1, 1997.

Mr. McSweeney was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force, 434 Bomb Group, serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and India. He was an insurance agent for National Guardian Life Insurance Company of Madison, Wis., for 25 years, retiring in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Thomas J. of Madison, Wis.; and two daughters, Dolores E. Metrogen of Newcastle, Calif., and Susanne M. Monroe of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Charles; and two sisters, Mildred Trejo and Lorretta McSweeney.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. John Cemetery, Independence. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
