WATERLOO - Clara M. Neuenkirk Pettit, 89, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at UnityPoint Heath-Allen Hospital.

She was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Durango, Colo., daughter of Asa and Hattie Goad Mason. She married Wilbert Neuenkirk on Dec. 10, 1940, in Grand Rapids, Minn.; he died in June 1984. She married Cecil Pettit in 1986; he died in 1987.

Clara worked as a telephone operator during World War II and was later a waitress at the Cedar Falls Holiday Inn, retiring in 1987.

Survived by two sons, Wilbert (Hazel) Neuenkirk of Evansdale and Francis (Wanda) Neuenkirk of Winterset; two daughters, La Donna Neuenkirk of Independence and Sharon (Randy) Haning of Altoona; a stepson, Danny (Terry) Pettit of Evansdale; 13 grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 56 stepgreat-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Leroy; a sister, Gertrude Bottineau; a stepson, Dick Pettit; and a stepdaughter, Marilyn Somerfelt.

Graveside services: 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillside Cemetery, Cedar Falls. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls.
