WATERLOO - Melvin P. "Scotty" Kleinendorst, 83, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born March 15, 1924, in Grinnell, son of Peter and Geraldine VanderBeek Kleinendorst. He married Marjorie Lazemby March 5, 1950, at Linden United Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Mr. Kleinendorst was vice president of Schoitz Engineering, retiring in 1985 after 40 years with the company. He was a member of Waterloo Sunrise Exchange Club and volunteered and managed the petting zoo for seven years, and was a member of American Model Airplane Association and Black Hawk Radio-controlled Pilots.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven (Debbie) Kleinendorst of Davenport and Alan (Denise) Kleinendorst of Waterloo; a daughter, Bonnie (David) Aschoff of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, Tresa (Chad) Mortensen, Julie, Eric and Angela Kleinendorst, Jenna, Shannon, Amber and Marcus Aschoff; and a sister-in-law, Bea Kleinendorst of Fairbank.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert and Theodore; and a sister, Jeanetta Christensen.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.
