JESUP - Virgil L. Nation, 89, of Jesup, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, of natural causes.

He was born June 29, 1915, in Black Hawk County, near Jubilee, son of Jesse and Myrtle Powell Nation. On Feb. 20, 1936, he married Grace K. Holdiman in Waterloo.

Mr. Nation graduated from Waterloo West High School. Before retirement in 1972, he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad as a conductor.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Dennis, Richard (Diane) and Brian (Connie), all of Waterloo, William of Harpers Ferry and Dale (Carol) of Jesup; two daughters, Janice Nation of Jesup and Patti (Clifford) Stacy of Brandon; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Hinson and Marjorie Warren, both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Rosco; and a sister, Marvel Lentz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at White Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, both in Jesup. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
