WATERLOO - LaVerne E. Johnson, 93, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at her home of natural causes.

She was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Wellsburg, daughter of Heiko and Norma Johnson Neessen. She married Dale W. Johnson in Waterloo on June 1, 1944. He preceded her in death Dec. 29, 2002.

She was employed for a short time at Rath Packing Company.

Survived by two daughters, Donna (Roger) Koopman of Cedar Falls and Sandra (Mark) Widdel of Waterloo; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce "Merna" Hicks of Delding, Mich., and Helen (Neil) McCaffery of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Maureen Neessen of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Don Neessen and Laurence Neessen; and a sister, Carol Neessen.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
