WATERLOO - J. Robert "Bob" Powers, 88, of Waterloo, died Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born March 18, 1926, in Waterloo, son of Thomas W. and Catherine Cunningham Powers. He married Cecile Habben on June 11, 1955, in Waterloo.

Bob graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy (OLVA) in 1944. He was employed as a salesman for Waterloo Office Supply for nine years; was in sales and management for Latta's Inc. and Control O Fax for 19 years, and was a Realtor/appraiser for 20 years at Brasch Realtors, retiring in 2002. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and was past president of Waterloo Optimist Club.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Dr. Michael Powers of Aurora, Ohio, Bradley (Kerry) of, Tampa, Fla., and Steven (Joni) of Glendale, Ariz.; and 10 grandchildren

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Richard and John "Jack;" and a sister, Ann Drewelow.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Friendship Village Auxiliary or Waterloo Optimist Club

Bob was involved in the Partners in Education program with Kittrell Elementary through Optimists, visiting weekly for 16 years.
