WATERLOO - Arlene Mae Sheehy, 91, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Western Home Communities Martin Center, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

She was born July 21, 1922, in Delaware, daughter of Carl and Mamie Smith Larson. She married Jack J. Sheehy on Oct. 16, 1954, in Waterloo; he died Aug. 30, 1964.

Arlene graduated from Delhi High School and later attended Gates Business College, Waterloo. She worked as the director of the YWCA for 10 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church until it closed and then became a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Survived by a cousin, Florence (Jerome) Curtis of Waterloo; and a nephew, Bruce Holthaus of Glendora, Calif.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gerald and Elwin Larson; and a sister, Hazel Holthaus.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to charity of donor’s choice.
