WATERLOO - Richard G. "Dick" Holmes, 72, of Waterloo, died at home Monday, March 28, 2005.

He was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Cedar Falls, son of George H. and Grace Jewell Holmes. He married Viola M. Jacobsen Jan. 8, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. Holmes retired from John Deere in 1985. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick and Jeff (Linn), both of Waterloo; a daughter, Teri (Kevin) Gade of Greene; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, George (Lorie) of Pensacola, Fla.; a half brother, Robert (Carol) Holmes of Central City; and a half sister, Melanie (Joe) Griffith of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a son, Scott.

Memorials services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, with inurnment at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel and for an hour before services at the church. The body has been cremated. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.
