WATERLOO - Claire D. Finney, 82, of Rosewood Estate, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005 at his home.

He was born May 3, 1923, in Madison County, son of George H. and Irma O. Fenimore Finney. He married Doris J. Johnson May 24, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan.

Mr. Finney graduated from Winterset High School in 1940 and then from Capital City Community College, Des Moines. He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 29 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Dr. Phillip D. (Evelyn) of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Dr. Robert E. (Barbara) of Shoreline, Wash.; two daughters, Cheryl (Haldean) Wilson of Indianola and Jacqueline (Thomas) Lekar of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Willard.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home.
