CEDAR FALLS - Georgiana Lyons, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of cancer.

She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Ida Grove, daughter of Harry E. and Cora Irene Jenks Amidon. She married Edward F. Lyons on March 31, 1943, in New York City, N.Y. He died March 10, 1978.

Mrs. Lyons was the senior citizen director at the Cedar Falls Recreation Department for 12 years and a library aide at Valley Park School for six years.

Survived by a son, Larry of Cedar Falls; five daughters, Georgia Smith of New Hartford, Mary Balanda of Winter Park, Fla., Beth Lyons of Woodbury, Conn., Terry Brix of Ankeny and Peg Lyons of Kansas City, Mo.; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert Amidon; and a sister, Virginia Bratton.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and Cremation Service, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary service.
