WATERLOO - James Daryl Crawford, 86, of Friendship Village, formerly of 902 Vermont St., died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 4, 1915, in Washington, son of Logan C. and Gertrude E. Britain Crawford. He married Catherine T. Peters on Nov. 2, 1940, in Washington. She died Aug. 20, 1999.

Mr. Crawford was a chemical engineer at the John Deere Tractor Works for 35 years, retiring in 1975.

Survived by two daughters, Jill Kerr of Hudson and Marsha Schake of Beaver Dam, Wis.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Augustine of Washington.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with inurnment in the cemetery. Kearns Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
