WATERLOO -- Vernon A. Cecak, 81, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Feb. 24, 1933, in Dysart, son of Anton and Anna Jans Cecak. He married Janice Kerns on Dec. 15, 1978, in Waterloo; she died Sept. 12, 2012.

Vernon was a maintenance carpenter with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 27 years, retiring in 1994.

Survived by two daughters, Sandra (Neal) Lindemood of Boise, Idaho, and Debra Garcia of Las Vegas; two sons, Anthony (Lisa) Gilbert of Ely, Nev., and Lonnie (Maureen) Cecak of Coldstream, Canada; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva (Roger) Knutson and Vernetta Saffell, both of Waterloo; two stepdaughters, Michelle (Steve) Rourke of Fairbank and Darcia (Curt) Krouse of Waterloo; a stepson, Brian (Paula) Kerns of Streamwood, Ill.; eight stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with inurnment at 1:30 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Fairbank. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
