WATERLOO - Helen I. Patterson, 90, of Friendship Village, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005m at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 10, 1914, in Albert Lea, Minn., daughter of Peter and Jenny Nielsen Hansen. She married Hugh F. Patterson Aug. 30, 1940, at Waterloo First Presbyterian Church. He died Dec. 25, 1993.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1931 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Mrs. Patterson worked in the accounting department at Rath Packing Company, and as an office manager at Okinow Jewelry, Swift & Company Dairy and Poultry Plant, and National Dairy Cattle Congress.

Mrs. Patterson was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1940 where she taught Sunday school and was president of First Presbyterian Womens Association. She was a member of the Waterloo Womens Club board, Waterloo Elklets, American Heart Association board, and visiting chairman of Mended Hearts Association. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, and was on the special elections committee for the Waterloo Recreation and Arts Center, Conway Civic Center, the new library, and the new swimming pools. She was also a member of Chapter LO of PEO.

Survived by a son, Donald (Kirsten) Patterson of St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Barbara (Jim) Davis of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Cindy (Todd) Steinke of Minneapolis, Patrick (Molly) Waters of Denver, Colo., and Seth Patterson and Tova Patterson, both of St. Paul; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Soren Hansen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Mended Hearts Association.
