EVANSDALE - Paul C. Ahles, 89, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society, Waukon, of natural causes.

He was born April 2, 1919, in Gilbertville, son of John and Dora Youngblut Ahles. He married Juliet Anderson on April 1, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. She died July 29, 1999.

Mr. Ahles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked in a packing house in Cedar Rapids, and in masonry with a construction company. He later was employed at Rath Packing Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1976.

Survived by a son, James (Judy) of Waukon; three grandchildren, Katie (Ben Leusink) Ahles of Waukon, Kyle (Jennifer) Ahles of Waterloo and Christopher (Stephanie) Ahles of New Albin; a great-grandson, Robert James Ahles of Waterloo; a brother, Francis "Red" of Jesup; and a sister, Toni Johnson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Jack; and three sisters, Peggy Robbins, Marge Timmion and Jo Kayser.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church.
