[Waterloo Courier, Wednesday, August 26, 1885, Waterloo, Iowa]

DIED.—On the 16th of August John Isenhower, one of the early residents of this section, died at his home near Washburn.

Mr. Isenhower was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, April 16, 1807. At the age of 8 years his parents moved, to Greenville, East Tennessee, where he remained until he was 20, when he moved to Monroe County, Indiana. He lived there four years and then went back to Greenville where he was married. Returning to Monroe County, he remained there a year, afterwards moving to Boone County. In 1880 he came to Benton County, Iowa, where he resided for ten years and then moved to the farm near Washburn where he resided until his death.

His last sickness was a long and painful one, beginning in April last, but he bore his sufferings calmly and met death without a murmur. In 1835 he joined the Lutheran church but when he came to Washburn, as there was no church of that denomination here, he joined the Presbyterians and was a consistent member until his death.

The funeral services were held at Washburn, Rev. A. Taylor officiating, and the remains were followed to the grave by a large number of sympathizing friends and relatives. Deceased was known as a man of correct habits and strick integrity and he was highly respected by all who knew him.

He leaves eleven children living, two in Oregon, one in Minnesota and the remainder in this county.
