Tractor Kills Gilbertville Farm Boy, 6

A farm accident late Friday afternoon took the life of a six-year-old Gilbertville boy, Michael Joseph* Delagardelle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Delagardelle, residing two miles east of that city.

The youth was killed when he was run over by a tractor on the home farm, death resulting from a broken neck and other injuries.

The father said he had been working in the field with the tractor and that his son apparently climbed on the rear of the machine and then slipped off.

The boy was born Oct. 17, 1947, at Gilbertville, a son of Donald and Leona Reuter Delagardelle and was a second-grade student in Immaculate Conception School there.

Surviving besides his parents are a brother, Alan, and a sister, Linda, along with the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. P. m. Delagardelle of Route 1, Jesup, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reuter of 1722 Bertch Ave.

Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilbertville, with the Rt. Rev. Monsignor W. J. Cremer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery there.

The body was taken Saturday afternoon from the Ray Hurley Funeral Home to the family home.

*Gravestone inscribed Michael "L." Delagardelle
Michael's dad's middle initial is "L" and his grandfather's name is Joseph so this researcher doesn't know if the obit or gravestone is correct.
