WATERLOO - Richard Hugh "Dick" Morris, 89, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born April 7, 1919, in Chicago, son of Eugene F. and Alma Reinemann Morris. He married Judith R. Randahl on June 18, 1949, in Minneapolis. She died Sept. 8, 1981.

Mr. Morris was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Hawaii and Okinawa. He was employed with General Mills Co. before moving to Waterloo in 1948, when he became an employee and shareholder of Waterloo Mills Co. He later served as company president, retiring in 1988. He continued to serve as chairman of the board until 2000.

As a founding member of the UNI Athletic Club (Panther Scholarship Club), he held the position of president in 1984 and in 1995 was named a Friend of UNI. In 2006 he received the "Friends of Athletics" award from the Black Hawk County Scholarship Committee in recognition of more than 40 years of fundraising and support. Also in 2006 he was named an honorary Panther letterman.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, where he served on the board of deacons, board of trustees and endowment committee. Additional community activities included the Waterloo Elks Club, Downtown Waterloo Rotary Club, Waterloo Commission on Human Rights under former Mayor Lloyd Turner and member of the El Kahir Shrine.

Survived by a son, Richard R. "Rick" (Debbie) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Diane J. (Peter) Colver and Jill E. (Bruce) Jensen, both of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Michael M. Mingus, Blake R. Morris, Lindsey N. Morris, Kristin E. Morris, Kaitlyn K. Morris, Emily E. Jensen, Ross R. Jensen and Lee R. Jensen.

Preceded in death by a brother, Robert E.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military rites by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to American Cancer Society or UNI Panther Scholarship Fund.

Dick was an avid and loyal University of Northern Iowa Panther fan.
