GILBERTVILLE - Irene Josephine Dietsch Thome, 82, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

She was born March 16, 1926, in Waterloo, daughter of Serafin and Anna Siefert Dietsch. She married Cletus F. Thome on Feb. 8, 1949, at St. Mary's Church, Waterloo. He died April 17, 2006.

Mrs. Thome attended St. Mary's grade school and high school. She was a homemaker and also was employed at Hawkeye Community College in the dietary department.

Survived by a daughter, Shelly (Dale) Gronoski of Raymond; two sons, Steve (Cris) of Jesup and Jeff of Gilbertville; nine grandchildren, Dale J. (Kari) Gronoski, Dayna (Dave) Adams, Erin Thome, Nick Thome, Julie (Dayton) Ericson, John Thome, Neal Thome, Lindsey Thome and Luke Thome; two great-granddaughters, Brianna and Aubrey Gronoski; three sisters, Leona Witt of Waterloo, Sister M. Jude OSF and Ruth Trey, both of Dubuque; and a sister-in-law Cleo Dietsch of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Alfred (Mabel), Leonard (Catherine), George (Shirley), Robert, Roy and Floyd; two sisters, Lucille (Harry) Frost and Thelma Dietsch; and two brother-in-laws: Roland Witt and Joe Trey.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
