WATERLOO - William A. Van Eman, 79, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Waterloo, son of Wilbur and Luella Rose Van Eman. He married Peggy Ann Friedley, and they were later divorced. He married Marcella Combs on July 11, 1981, in Waterloo.

Mr. Van Eman was employed with Rose Beauty Supply, Chamberlain Manufacturing and for 22 years with John Deere Waterloo Tractor works, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the U.S. Navel Reserves for 14 years. He was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as a Scout Master, a deacon of First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Men's Garden Club.

Survived by his wife; a son, David (Diane) of Dunkerton; a daughter, Deborah (Roger) Fuller of Parkersburg; a stepson, H. Duane (Eunice) Combs of Houston; 13 grandchidlren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two cousins, James (Arlene) Rose of Anoka, Minn., and Charles Nelson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two stepsons, James and Dennis Combs; and a cousin, Rose Mary Nelson.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church.
