INDEPENDENCE - Bruce L. Esmoil, 51, of Stone City, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a sudden illness.

He was born May 3, 1954, in Waterloo, son of Walter Ora "Ozzie" and Darlene Zummak Esmoil.

Mr. Esmoil graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1972 and also from the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona, Fla. He was a customer service technical assistant at J & P Cycles in Anamosa for many years.

Survived by his parents, Darlene and Walter "Ozzie" Esmoil of Independence; a brother, Brent (Karen Nelson) Esmoil of Helena, Mont.; a sister, Diane (Tom) Eachus of Waterloo; and a beloved niece and nephew, Sarah Eachus and Brian Eachus.

Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond Sr. and Bertha Lenz Zummak; his paternal grandparents, Harold and Lydia Ulm Esmoil; and two brothers, Brian Esmoil and Bradley Esmoil.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Independence.

A memorial fund has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence; Ewalu Camp, Strawberry Point; and Fontana Nature Center, Hazleton.
