WATERLOO - Helen Mae Fuller, 68, of Waterloo, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colo., died July 10, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of congestive heart failure.

She was born June 6, 1937, on a farm near Decorah, daughter of Orrick and Grace Pritchard Fuller. She graduated in 1955 from Independence High School and briefly attended Iowa State University in Ames. She went to work as a telephone operator in Independence, moving to Waterloo in 1959, then to Cedar Rapids. She later moved to North Dakota where she worked as a switchboard operator for the U.S. government. In 1970, she moved to Colorado Springs to work for the militarys North American Aerospace Defense Command at its famous Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center housed 2,000 feet underground.

In 1982 Ms. Fuller graduated from nursing school as an LPN and in 1986 received her RN degree. She worked at the drug rehabilitation center in Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs and at the Colorado State Mental Hospital in Pueblo.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include children of her late brother, Donald Fuller: Diane Fuller of Waterloo, Carol (Jeff) Gelner of Waterloo, Cathy (Paul) Fuller of Atlanta, Ga., Cindy (Douglas) Hines of Waterloo and Daryl (Laura) Fuller of Parkersburg; a brother, Harold (Elrita) Fuller of Cedar Falls and their children, Kathleen (Roger) Miller of Cedar Falls, Michael (Lavonne) Harnish of Minnesota, Barbara (John) Charlie of Dike, Diane McClain of Cedar Falls and Richard (Felicia) Harnish of Wisconsin; 19 great-nieces and nephews; and five great-great-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a brother.

Memorial services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Crossroads Assembly of God Church, Waterloo.
