WATERLOO - William J. Bowser Sr., 83, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Country View Care Facility of natural causes.

He was born May 26, 1922, in Waterloo, son of Ernest Robert and Edna Mae Garland Bowser. He married and later divorced May Frances Carlton in 1940. On Sept. 27, 1947, he married Fern Sim in Mercer County, Mo.

Mr. Bowser served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended the Waterloo School District, receiving his General Education Diploma in 1968. He was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 40 years, retiring in 1981.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William Jr. (Rose) of Waterloo; a daughter, Janice Stern of Waterloo; and eight grandchildren, Greg Bowser, Keith Bowser and Sheri Glass, all of California, Shaun Stern, Daniel Stern, Michael Bowser, Jennifer Bowser and Christopher Stern, all of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Gary William; a grandson, Joshua Stern; and a sister, Eunice Koonce.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial in Garden of Memories. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
